Kuleshow effect is a concepts in filmmaking created by lev Kuleshow in the 1920s.
You can have the same expression but its the shot after that changes.

Sergio Eisenstein-

The theory was that if you saw two objects they would automatically see certain emotions.
eye+water=crying.
ear+door=listening.
mouth+bird=singing.

transitions-

The process of moving from one shot to another.
A 'cut' jumps straight from. One shot to another.

fade-

A shot fades into black then another shot emerges.

dissolve or crossfade-

One image merges into another.

wipe-

  Image is revealed over another in a direction.

pace and rhythm-

The duration of a shot.
Sort shots can show urgency.
duration shots can show more detail, intimacy and intensity.

continuity

helping the audience understand how it continues.
Creates realism.
